Hat-trick of wins for writer who 'tells the truth'

Stoke Sentinel motoring columnist John Swift has been voted the Guild of Motoring Writers Regional Journalist of the Year.

He also came runner-up in The AA Trophy for writing on political, environmental, legal and safety issues.

He was honoured with the award at the annual dinner of the RAC Club, in London.

It is the third year running John has scooped the award – something never before achieved in the Guild’s 59-year history.

John said: “It is testament to the editorial independence of The Sentinel in that we always tell the truth.

“We cover a huge range of topics and far more than just product-based reporting, including legal, environmental and safety issues. The Sentinel motoring section enjoys a reputation of being quite hard-hitting.”

The Sentinel carries one of the biggest motoring supplements of any regional newspaper in the country.

John’s column in Sentinel Sunday has moved away from the usual format, in favour of topical comment.
