Evening Leader hailed as "the complete product"

The Evening Leader was named Newspaper of the Year for 2003 at North Wales Newspapers first-ever awards dinner.

Announcing the award, managing director Kevin McNulty said that judges described the Evening Leader, which has editions for Wrexham, Chester & Flintshire as “the complete product”.

The award was presented to editor Richard Williams by company chairman Russell Whitehair at a glittering ceremony attended by 250 staff at Theatr Clwyd near the company headquarters at Mold.

The Weekly Newspaper Of The Year went to the Denbighshire Free Press with editor Alistair Syme collecting the award.

  • Rhyl Journal deputy editor Diane Ashton was named Reporter Of the Year with Evening Leader’s Sarah Park picking up the Trainee Reporter Of The Year title.

    Tony Bell, Evening Leader deputy features editor, was named Features Writer Of The Year.

    The Photographer Of The Year award went to veteran Evening Leader cameraman Les Evans while chief sports writer David Lovett was named Sports Writer of The Year.

    And continuing its dominance, the Evening Leader also collected awards for Best Editorial Community Campaign and Best News & Sports Pages.
