Entries invited for new awards scheme

Journalists working in the Merseyside area are being invited to enter a new awards scheme launched by the Merseyside Media Network.

Ten awards are up for grabs at the event, sponsored by Littlewoods, including news journalist of the year, features journalist of the year, sports journalist of the year, photojournalist of the year, business journalist of the year, scoop of the year, designer of the year and newcomer of the year.

There will also be an overall award of Merseyside Journalist of the Year, chosen from the winners of the previous categories, which carries a substantial cash prize.

Student journalists not yet working in the media also have the chance to compete for a prize if they are currently studying on Merseyside or are from Merseyside but are studying in another part of the country.

The closing date for entries is February 28, and the winners will be announced during a ceremony at the Holiday Inn City Centre Lime Street, in the spring.

All entrants, with the exception of student journalist of the year, must be members of the Merseyside Media Network.

The network, which was set up in June last year, is free to join and offers a way for journalists to get together socially and promote the status of journalists within the community.

It currently has around 220 members who all work in the newspaper, television, radio and new media industries on Merseyside.
