County gets its own awards scheme

A new awards scheme has been launched to recognise the achievements of journalists and photographers in Wiltshire.

Organised by the Swindon branch of the National Union of Journalists, and sponsored by new radio station Swindon FM, the Wiltshire Media Awards are open to all journalists, union and non-union, working in print, broadcasting or web-based media in Wiltshire.

The event will culminate in a ceremony at the Goddard Arms in Swindon, on Thursday, May 22, and will see eight awards handed out – including one for the scoop of the year.

There will also be prizes for the best feature journalist, sports journalist, newcomer, reporter, photographer, press officer, and headline of the year.

Entries are now being accepted and journalists can nominate themselves or be put forward by their colleagues or readers.

The closing date is March 25 and entries should be sent to Peter Folley, at: 14 South Brook Street, Swindon SN2 1HF or e-mail [email protected].

All work must have been published/broadcast in 2002 and should be accompanied by details of when and where it appeared.
