'Cool and confident' Journal picks up Newspaper of the Year prize

The Journal in Newcastle has been named Newspaper of the Year at Trinity Mirror’s annual Regional Editorial Awards.

“Cool, polished and confident” was how judges summed up the newspaper, which is edited by Brian Aitken, and it also took home the award for Best News Pages for a daily or Sunday newspaper.

Trophies and certificates were handed out to the editors of winning newspapers in eleven categories, during a ceremony in Manchester.

Among the other winners was The Croydon Advertiser, which won Regional Weekly Newspaper of the Year after impressing judges with its “bold use of style and content and substantially improved sales performance”.
