Columnist notches up another honour

An award-winning writer has added to his collection of honours by being named as a top nature writer in the This Britain contest.

Trevor Beer, of the Western Morning News, was awarded the MBE in January for services to journalism and his latest award, from the David St John Thomas Charitable Trust, adds to the many he has won during his nine years as a newspaper columnist.

The challenge for the Scotland-based trust’s award was to depict a favourite area with six photographs, each with 100 words attached, capturing its beauty and special features of interest.

Trevor said: “I think that writing a nature column every day for the Western Morning News enabled me to caption the photographs for this competition in a way that appealed to the trust’s judges in Scotland.

“This was very much an award for writing.

“This award means a lot to me because it is a national award. It is a great honour to be recognised nationally, as well as in the Westcountry, for the work that I do.”
