Chance to shine at international media event

Journalists are being invited to enter this year’s Foreign Press Association Media Awards, which are set to be held in London later this year.

The event is dedicated to excellence in foreign reporting and other areas of serious journalism, and the best in British and international journalism will be honoured.

There are 11 categories to choose from, including Journalist of the Year; Financial/Economic Story of the Year; Radio Story of the Year; TV Story of the Year; Travel Story of the Year; Environmental Story of the Year; Young Journalist of the Year; and UK Story of the Year by a Foreign Correspondent based in the UK.

There will also be awards for the Communicator of the Year, Press Office of the Year and, for the first time, Print or Web Story of the Year.

FPA president Catherine Mayer said: “Our awards ceremony is one of the best attended and most enjoyable fixtures in the media calendar.

“Each year it produces ever more unexpected juxtapositions of high seriousness and irreverence, of the famous and the infamous.

“More importantly, the awards themselves are hugely coveted – and rightly so. The rigorous judging processand calibre of the international judges’ panel ensure that only outstanding work reaches the shortlists for each category.”

The deadline for entries is September 17, and winners will be announced at the Sheraton Park Lane Hotel in London on November 23.

Special guests at the 2004 prestigious event will include His Majesty King Abdullah II bin Al Hussein and Her Majesty Queen Rania of Jordan.
