Award honours vital community role

The Ayrshire Extra has been honoured for its role in helping to make the community a safer place.

The Archant-owned title received an award at the Ayrshire Community Safety Partnership’s Good Citizenship Awards 2004.

Editor Scott Barr said: “This is a great achievement for me and my team. Especially when there are so many other media competitors in our area, it is nice to see Ayrshire’s top paper recognised.

“As a community newspaper, that works hard to put its message across to the people of Ayrshire, it is nice to know that we are so well respected by our readership and countywide organisations who nominated us for this honour.

“We will continue our campaign for better facilities, safer streets and more jobs in Ayrshire and hopefully continue to be recognised as the paper that makes a difference.”

The awards recognise the involvement of individuals, community groups and the media in ensuring everyone’s right to live without fear in their communities.
