The first Rhodri Jones Memorial Award has been given to South Wales Echo reporter Sian Harris.
Sian was named Outstanding Young Journalist of the Year at a ceremony dedicated to the memory of Rhodri Jones, a former trainee journalist with The Western Mail.
Rhodri lost his fight against cancer a year ago. He had worked at the newspaper for 18 months.
Editor of The Western Mail Neil Fowler, said: “Rhodri was not just potentially a great journalist, he was an all-round great person as well.”
Alastair Milburn, editor of the South Wales Echo, said: “I think it’s a fantastic award in recognition of a young man who would have become a fantastic journalist.
“I’m delighted that Sian is the inaugural winner of this award and I am sure she will serve Rhodri’s memory well.”
