Award chance for regional publisher's education site

An interactive educational website from Northcliffe Electronic Publishing has made the shortlist for the prestigious AOP Online Publishing Awards 2004.

It is the only entry from the UK regional press industry in with a chance of scooping an award.

headlinehistory.co.uk has been nominated in the Innovation category alongside products and services produced by Emap Automotive, Guardian Unlimited and T-Mobile.

The first phase of the project – covering the Victorian era with content specific to the East Midlands region – went live in June. The next phase is due to go live this month with new content about the Tudor, Roman and World War Two eras of English history.

The project was commissioned by Culture Online, part of the Department for Culture Media and Sport Culture.

Video and audio clips allow children to research and edit news stories like real reporters and sub-editors.

The AOP winners will be announced at a black-tie celebratory awards dinner on October 21 at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.

Lisa Quinlan, AOP web and events executive, said: “The standard of entries was extremely high and all shortlisted entries have been highly commended by the judges.”

More than 200 entries were received, a record for these awards.
