Amnesty calls for entries from regional media

Print journalists from the regional media are being invited to submit entries for the 2004 Amnesty International UK Media Awards.

The annual ceremony will take place at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts on Thursday, May 13 in Piccadilly, London, hosted by TV and radio journalist Joan Bakewell.

The Regional Award category is open to print or broadcast from regional media and recognises excellence in human rights journalism that has made a significant contribution to the UK public’s greater awareness and understanding of human rights issues.

Other award categories include: Television documentary, Television news, Radio, National newspapers, Periodicals, including weekend national print magazines and supplements and Photojournalism.

There is also the Gaby Rado Memorial Award for an up-and-coming journalist who has been covering national or international human rights stories in broadcast or print media for less than five years.

Entries must have been originally published or broadcast in the UK between 1 March 2003 and 19 February 2004 and fall within Amnesty international area of concern.

All entries must be accompanied by a non-refundable payment of £50 per entry. The closing date for receipt of entries is February 20.
