2003 Newspaper Award nominations announced

A host of regional newspapers will be competing against national rivals at the 2003 Newspaper Awards.

Shortlisted nominations for the event have now been announced, and regional publishers and titles feature in the majority of the 12 categories.

Those in with the chance of scooping an award include the Eastern Daily Press, Jersey Evening Post, Manchester Evening News Aberdeen Press & Journal, Reading Evening Post and Shropshire Star, which are all shortlisted in the Regional Newspaper of the Year category.

And in many other categories regional titles are up against national newspapers, including the Sunday Sentinel, which will compete with titles such as The Observer and Mail on Sunday for the Sunday Newspaper of the Year title, and the Daily Mirror and Sunday Times in the category for Most Outstanding Use of Colour.

The winners of all 12 categories will be announced at a ceremony at The Dorchester on London’s Park Lane on Wednesday, April 2.
