The winners of The 2002 Newspaper Awards, which saw regional papers taking on the nationals, have been announced.
Several regional newspapers took awards home, including the Yorkshire Post, which was named Regional Newspaper of the Year, the Kent Messenger which was named Weekly Newspaper of the Year and the Evening Gazette, Middlesbrough, which won the Newspaper Design of the Year award.
Winners were revealed during a gala evening, hosted by radio and TV personality Clive Anderson, at The Dorchester in London.
Now in its sixth year, The 2002 Newspaper Awards received a record number of entries overall, with fierce competition across fifteen categories.
