Star's ice press ball is a double success

The Ipswich Evening Star has raised more than £35,000 for charity from its annual Press Ball.

More than 350 guests attended the ice-themed event on Friday, held at the Hotel Elizabeth in Copdock, Ipswich.

Entertainment was provided by Tony Hadley, and a raffle and auction helped to raise £27,320 for chosen charity Disability Care Enterprise, which provides specialist equipment for disabled people.

A surprise additional donation of £10,000 was also pledged by event sponsors Call Connection, which will go towards the Evening Star's campaign Somebody's Daughter campaign to build a safehouse to help people trapped in the grip of drugs.

The event was the 11th Ipswich and Suffolk Press Ball organised by the Evening Star, and in total has so far raised £294,000 for good causes.
