High-flying reporter takes to the sky for wingwalk

Daredevil reporter Alison White has been up to more adventures - this time wingwalking on a plane as it flew above a London airport at 120mph.

News Shopper journalist Alison, also known as Action Allie, joined The Utterly Butterly wingwalking display team for the stunt - and enjoyed it so much that she might even consider a change of career!

Her daredevil exploits have previously included swimming in Hyde Park lake on a freezing January morning, training with the fire service and driving articulated lorries, and the adrenaline junkie said wingwalking was one of the best things she has ever done.

She said: "I love flying. The feeling in your belly as the aircraft speeds down the runway before take-off is hard to beat.

"I think the thrill of the speed and power involved in taking off and landing is amazing.

"But I was dubious whether this enthusiasm would extend to climbing on top of an aircraft for a five-minute flight around Biggin Hill airport."

After a 20 minute briefing, Alison was strapped to the top of the aeroplane with a harness and it quickly took off, leaving the crowds below looking somewhat smaller.

She said: "I could not believe how windy it was as my loose clothes became pinned against me and the skin on my face flapped.

"But all my fears evaporated and I put my arms out, feeling like I was on a magic carpet.

"I managed big waves to the watching crowds and TV cameras below.

"We did turns, shot upwards and at one point flew only a few feet from the ground.

"I travelled at around 120mph and experienced 2g.

"The landing was the smoothest I have ever experienced as the pilot returned me gently back to earth.

"Wingwalking is one of the best things I have ever done.

"In fact, I am tempted to offer my services to The Utterly Butterly team should it ever be short of a wingwalker."
