A new book looking into the past in Bristol has been published by the Evening Post.

Based on its supplement Bristol Times, the book Bristol Times Revisited gives a more permanent read to look again at favourite articles from the supplement, which is about to celebrate its fifth birthday.

Bristol Times editor David Harrison said: "Like the last publication, it's the result of a trawl through the best stories in our back issues to give you the very cream of the milk.

"You can read about James Naylor, Bristol's mad Messiah, who once rode into the city on a donkey proclaiming that he was Christ, or the tale of General Dyer from Long Ashton, who ordered the killing of 379 Sikhs in the holy city of Amritsar in 1919.

"We've also included an interesting section called Quirks and Oddities, which looks into a past often taken for granted.

"Bristol Times Revisited is a great read, the sort of book you can dip into anytime you've got a minute to spare, but soon find yourself reading page after page."

It is published by Tempus Publishing of Stroud at £11.99 and is available from good bookshops as the Evening Post in Temple Way.
