Banners unveiled after Gazette's contest

The Tiverton Gazette joined forces with Mid Devon District Council to host a contest for the new Exe Valley Leisure Centre in Tiverton.

The competition was open to schoolchildren in the area to design a banner promoting fit and healthy lifestyles that could be hung outside the new £5m complex.

The winners were taken from two age groups.

The judges, who included the Gazette's deputy editor Mary-Ann Bloomfield, were impressed with the high quality of the entries and were hard pressed to find two winners.

The winner of the five to 11 age range was named as nine-year-old Mark Gooding, and 13-year-old James Gibson won the 12 to 16 category.

The two winners will be the first to try out the brand new 25m by 12.5m swimming pool and will also be VIP guests to the opening of the centre, and also to an official opening later in the year, when the banners will be unveiled.
