Hundreds of men may copy David Beckham and his ever-changing hairstyles, and some may even have donned a sarong to be like their hero, but what about his latest fashion statement?

The England captain was recently spotted wearing bright pink nail polish, but will the look catch on or has Beckham gone too far this time?

In the interests of investigative journalism, Peterborough Evening Telegraph reporter Neil Studd decided to brave the bottle and get his nails done too.

After a quick visit to Boots, where Neil chose a shade of 'Wild Lilac', he braved the streets of Peterborough to find out what the general public thought of his new look.

And the reaction was decidedly mixed.

Neil said: "Many of the men I approached to ask wouldn't even stop as they saw my pink nails gripping my pad and pen.

"Several actually turned in the opposite direction as I attempted to ask them what they thought of my look.

"The women, though, were slightly more forthcoming - but my painted nails seemed to do nothing for my chances of meeting a girl like Posh."
